She seemed confused and a bit frustrated; found her hand and
was trying to suck on it like mad. I got her to take her pacifier for a while,
good practice for when she gets to take a real bottle! It is really good to see
her wanting to suck; CDH babies have problems learning to eat because of oral
aversions. When everything that goes in your mouth is a tube, and you don’t
associate sucking with feeling comfortable or full, there isn’t much incentive
to eat!
Anya has grown though; she was 7lbs 4oz yesterday, we
measured her and she was about 21.5in. Her vent was weaned down today; Dr. Kays
set a plan up for her to be weaned depending on her blood gases. I have learned
that it is a good sign anytime Dr. Kays gives up tight control. Her belly is
still wonky but they are going to do an ultrasound in the morning. Her chest tube
site is still draining in a good way. Looking good!
