Anya was extubated around 4pm, she is on c-pap right now. It
constantly pushes pressure to help Anya breathe. What is typical (or so I am
told) is that the c-pap is only needed for a week or so and then the babies are
put on high flow oxygen. High flow looks a lot more like ‘regular’ nasal cannula
oxygen, and is more comfortable for the babies. Anya was not convinced at first
that she liked the c-pap, it is a different feeling!
So exciting to see that Anya has an upper lip!! She has
facial expressions! Can start to suck properly on a pacifier! Move her head independently!
A whole new world of normal babyness! No exact time frame on when we get to
hold her, she needs to be stable with her o2 sats consistently before it is
allowed. Dr. Kays was very particular that her o2 sats needed to be perfect. I spent
a lot of this evening watching them; they would go down for short periods and
go back up to normal. As long as they don’t linger down she is ok.
Arwen and Ruth come tomorrow. So tonight I am praying for stable
oxygen saturations for one daughter and safe travels for another, including
Grandma of course!
